| Description:
| Aims: To gain experience and knowledge of civil engineering design and construction in practice, and to report on an area of interest. Learning Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit, students will understand the nature, process and challenges of industrial engineering practice, including health and safety in industry. Skills: A variety of generic and specialist skills will be gained, as appropriate for the particular placement. Content: Practical experience and first hand observation of civil engineering in practice. The student is supported in finding an employer, but the Department cannot guarantee that every student will be employed. All students will be given an academic supervisor for the duration of the unit and will have an industrial mentor to supervise day to day work. Students who obtain employment in the UK will normally be visited at their place of work; otherwise, communication will be maintained by other means. Students will be assessed for the award of the credits on the basis of the time spend in an appropriate industrial environment, and a placement report on their experience. |
