Click here for further information Description: Aims:
This unit aims to ensure that students are equipped with sufficient business knowledge/principles to enable entry to their chosen business pathway either with Bath University or similar provider.
This unit will seek to further enhance the core competencies of Business 1, namely research skills, problem solving, effective communication skills and ICT.

Learning Outcomes:
On completion of the unit students should be able to:
(i) Explain how internal change can affect businesses
(ii) Identify the main external changes affecting businesses and explain their impact on a business
(iii) Prepare the main financial statements used in business and calculate and explain financial ratios based on the financial statements.
(iv) Carry out basic investment appraisal techniques and make recommendations based on their results
(v) Explain how contract and consumer protection law impact on businesses within the context of the UK legal system and EU law.

The impact of Change on Business
* External change, including the business cycle, interest rates, exchange rates, unemployment, social change
* Internal change, including management reorganisation, changes in size, changes in ownership
Finance
* Profit and Loss Account and Balance Sheet
* Ratio Analysis
* Investment appraisal (Pay Back, ARR and NPV)
Law
* The legislative process in the UK (outline only)
* Formation of contract; contract terms
* Consumer protection, consumer legislation, trade descriptions.
