Click here for further information Description: Aims:
Students undertaking this unit will examine and analyse the ethical considerations in sport to allow students to assess the role of the coach/instructor/therapist in welfare issues in relation to sports participation.

Learning Outcomes:
At the end of this unit students will be able to:
* analyse the issues and pressures experienced by the coach/instructor/therapist and the participants/clients;
* identify the key issues contributing to ethical practice;
* demonstrate they can implement safe and effective practice when working with participants/clients/special populations;
* identify and analyse the impact of unethical practice within the sports context.

Skills:
* communication;
* information technology;
* basic management skills.

Content:
* the role of the coach/instructor/therapist in child welfare, to include child abuse, trainability of children, growth and development;
* drugs in sport, including the ethical implications of drug testing;
* ethical practice (codes of conduct: codes of ethics)
* safe working practice to include health and safety responsibilities, intrinsic and extrinsic risk factors for injury;
* professionalism vs. amateur, funding, media and role model status;
* pressures of success, under achievement and the impact it has on ethical practice.
