This module aims to provide students with an introduction to contemporary social work practice & its organisational context & to provide practical experience that enables students to explore and develop their understanding of social work values.

Learning Outcomes:
By the end of the module students will be able to:
* Prepare for social work contact & involvement (Key Role 1 Unit 1 Elements 1.1 - 1.3)
* Manage & be accountable, with supervision & support, for your own social work practice within your organisation (Key Role 5 Unit 14 Element 14.2(a) & 14.3(a), Key Role 5 Unit 15 element 15.1(a), Key Role 5 Unit 16 Element 16.1(a) & 16.1(b).
* Work within agreed standards of social work practice & ensure own professional development (Key Role 6 Unit 19 Elements 19.1-19.5)
* Work within legislative, statutory guidance, sole agency & inter-disciplinary procedural frameworks & policy, including security & confidentiality of information (knowledge indicators 1a, 2h & 2i)
* Describe the range of local resources & services available (Knowledge indicator 2f)
* Be aware of their own values, prejudices, ethical dilemmas & conflicts of interest & their implications on their practice (Knowledge indicator 3a)
* Respect & promote individuality, form of communication, independence & quality of life, protection from harm and the dignity & privacy of each person as an individual (Knowledge indicator 3b & 3c)
* Value, recognise & respect the diversity, expertise & experience of individuals, families, carers, groups & communities (Knowledge 3d)
* Maintain the trust & confidence of individuals, families, carers.
