Click here for further information Description: Aims:
The aim of this unit is to provide students with the skills required to effectively recruit and select members of staff to meet organisational requirements. It will address the identification of the need for staff within an organisation, selecting objectively and inducting effectively within legal and organisational constraints.

Learning Outcomes:
By the end of the unit a student will be able to:
1. Explain the impact of both the law and organisational procedures on the processes of recruitment and selection.
2. Identify personnel requirements in an area of work; establish and present a reasoned case for changes in staffing resources.
3. Specify a given job role; develop objective criteria for selection covering competence, skills and attributes.
4. Evaluate assessment and selection methods available and select the most appropriate for a given role.
5. Organise and run a selection process, agree and justify the decision and keep the necessary records.
6. Provide constructive communication on selection decisions and plan induction and development for the appointed candidate.
7. Review the process and make recommendations for change/improvement.

Intellectual (taught and assessed) - organisational and human resource management theory, including motivation, recruitment, induction, appraisal, legislative background.
Professional (facilitated, taught and assessed) - equal opportunity and diversity issues.
Practical (facilitated, taught and assessed) - recruitment and selection procedures.
Key Skills (facilitated - assessed through other units) this unit will support students in the demonstration of competence in professional and practical skills to be used in the workplace.

Content:
This unit concentrates on:
Organisational and human resource management theory which underpins the principles of human resource planning, including costs and benefits of employing people, recruitment, selection, ethical and legislative requirements, target-setting and using appropriate analytical tools.
