The aims of this unit are to:
* develop knowledge of the Health and Safety regulatory framework;
* investigate the impact of Health and Safety on the engineering working environment;
* develop the tools used to evaluate and analyse risks in the organisation.

Learning Outcomes:
On completion of the unit the student should be able to:
* explain the scope and impact of UK and EU legislation on operations in an engineering organization, including the formal and criminal consequences for non compliance;
* appreciate the origins and developments taking place in legislation, the professional bodies and government agencies that contribute towards the regulatory framework;
* apply risk assessment techniques and evaluation processes used to aid the management of identified risks in the engineering organization environment.

Content:
This unit concentrates on:
* the UK and EU Regulatory environment that impacts on engineering organisation
* interpreting and implementing Health & Safety and Risk Assessment policies
* Risk Management techniques
* Statistical Analysis procedures
* Risk and Hazard classification and evaluation of their impacts on the engineering operations
* appropriate methodologies for recording and reviewing the risk management processes.
