| Description:
| Aims: To develop students' knowledge and understanding of the key theories and concepts on children's learning. To explore different models and the implications of these on children's development, including cognitive, developmental, social and emotional dimensions. Learning Outcomes: On completion of this unit the learner will be able to: * Explore the different models and their impact on learning. * Compare the theories and analyse the differences. * Evaluate the benefits of recognising individual preferences. * Recognise their own role in implementing the key concepts. * Apply the principles of educational psychology, demonstrating awareness of the different perspectives and the effect on equal opportunities and anti-discriminatory practice. Skills: Intellectual: Engage in critical analysis of theoretical models; synthesise information from a number of texts to demonstrate a coherent understanding of psychological perspectives; critically evaluate the concepts and perspectives used in the workplace; reflect on the appropriateness of the perspectives when used within that workplace. Professional: Illustrate appropriate understanding of psychological perspectives; effectively and efficiently apply the perspectives within a variety of situations. Practical: Research models of behaviour, Learn independently, Gather information and data from a number of sources, Synthesise information to develop coherent understanding. Key Skills: Apply basic ICT skills, Manage time effectively, Construct suitable assignment following assignment guidelines. Content: Students will analyse the contexts of independent learning, including memory, cognition, values, emotion and motivation. The major theoretical models will be discussed, as will social relationships in learning and socio-cultural influences. Contemporary issues will be considered. |
