To show how the skills of chemists and engineers can be used to develop materials and processes for cleaner energy storage and conversion technologies such as lithium batteries, fuel cells, hydrogen storage and solar cells; to show relation of good technological development to fundamental principles of chemistry and engineering; to provide up-to-date information on some key aspects of energy storage and conversion.

Learning Outcomes:
After successfully completing this unit students should be able to: Understand the development of materials for energy storage and conversion technologies; understand fundamental principles of chemistry and engineering related to energy materials for lithium batteries, fuel cells, hydrogen storage and solar cells.

Skills:
Interdisciplinary skills in development of energy materials: synthesis and fabrication, structural characterisation, electrochemistry; computer modelling.
