This unit focuses on key concepts in educational psychology, particularly cognitive, developmental and social dimensions.

Learning Outcomes:
Students who have completed this unit will appreciate and be able to explore contemporary issues and theories in educational psychology and will have a greater understanding of their own and others' approaches to learning.

Content:
Students will consider the cognitive and affective bases of individual learning, including the role of values and emotion in learning. The role of intelligence, talent & creativity, and the significance of social relationships in learning will be explored. The significance of Attachment Theory. The major theoretical models utilised to examine developmental psychology, particularly those of Piaget and Vygotsky, will be addressed Contemporary issues in educational psychology will be explored, including a variety of learning disorders and difficulties. The role and work of an Educational Psychologist.
