Click here for further information Description: Aims:
The aim of the course unit is to present the major themes of Environmental Economics. The unit covers both the theoretical background of externalities and the design of economic policy.

Learning Outcomes:
By the end of this course unit students should be able to suggest possible solutions to the current major environmental issues, such as climate change, air and water pollution, valuation of biodiversity, cost-benefit analysis. In addition, they should be able to offer a critique on the main policy solutions set forth in the literature.

Skills:

* Critical evaluation of tools of environmental economics used to address problems of pollution and issues relating to valuation.
* Ability to enter into a critical debate on topics covered in the course.

Content:
Two main areas of which we will cover are the regulation of polluting activities and the valuation of resources. The key textbook is:
Perman, R., Y. Ma and James McGilvray, Natural Resource & Environmental Economics, Longman and New York, (2003), 3rd Edition.
