* To introduce technology forecast methods based on laws of technology development and market evolution trends.
* To provide knowledge on how to predict, execute and manage innovation by introducing a number of advanced design techniques, particularly TRIZ - systematic breakthrough innovative methodology.

Learning Outcomes:
On successful completion of the unit the student will be able to:
* Understand the processes of systematic innovation.
* Understand the product development in the global context of technology evolution and changes in economics and society.
*Use a number of innovation methods and techniques for advanced engineering.
* Apply the processes to the development of new products and market forecasts.

Skills:
Global thinking in product development. Clear definition of the design constraints and systematic analysis of available resources. Ability to come up with novel solution with no additional cost. Working independently and in teams; written and oral communication.

Content:
Inventions and innovations: five levels of inventions and how they can grow into innovations in product design. Algorithm for advanced product design and development - TRIZ. Constraints as the main drive for product development: QFD, functional analysis, types of contradictive requirements, inventive principles, laws of complex manufacturing system development, technology evolution trends. The method for technology forecasts: marketing innovation and product development in the context of market, social and cultural aspects.
