Click here for further information Description: Aims:
To develop an understanding of relevant theories underlying learning at work, in particular: the role of emotions, power and other contextual factors in learning in organizational settings and methods of organizationally-managed and self-directed work-based learning. Developing self-awareness, skills and knowledge relevant to personal effectiveness in organizational settings. Furthermore, to prepare for the Period of Practice by reviewing progress towards students' Professional Development Agenda (or Personal Development Plan); to set expectations and objectives for Professional Practice; to explain the assessment requirements of the Professional Practice.

Learning Outcomes:
An understanding of learning in organizations is developed through an analysis of learning dynamics within the AMP group. In addition, the student should have/be able to demonstrate by the end of this unit:
* an understanding of organizational theories and concepts, in particular related to how learning is managed by organizations, professions, and self and how individual and group dynamics affect learning;
* the ability to discuss critically the implications of particular approaches to learning in organizations with regards to its management by organizations and self;
* self-awareness with regards to interpersonal and communications skills relevant to personal effectiveness in organizational settings;
* practical experience in methods of reflective practice;
* the ability to reflect on their progress towards achieving their Professional Development Agenda;
* an understanding of the requirements to be placed on them during professional practice;
* the ability to manage their professional practice experience effectively.

Ability to identify, plan and evaluate progress towards Personal Development Agenda - facilitated and assessed
Ability to analyse problems within the workplace associated with the learning experience - facilitated.

Content:
Review of the Learning Needs Analysis and the Personal Development Plan; relevant theories of work-based learning and reflective practice; self-awareness in interpersonal/team settings (e.g. Myers Briggs Type Indicator); communications skills.
Theories and conceptual models on management learning, organizing management learning, and self-directed work-place learning and professional development. Experiential learning activities (compulsory). Self-assessment. Communications & presentation skills. How to manage problems which emerge on professional practice and to identify learning opportunities. Health and safety issues. The assessment requirements of the Period of Professional Practice including the Review of Professional Development and the Business Case Analysis.
