| Description:
| Aims: This unit is designed to equip students with an appreciation of the factors influencing the development of funeral service from 1700 to the present. Learning Outcomes: By the end of the unit students will have demonstrated: * A basic knowledge of the historical origins of funeral service in the UK; * An understanding of developments within the nineteenth century which led to the expansion of the funeral industry; * An ability to identify and interpret the social, religious and technical factors which impacted on the work of funeral director in the twentieth century. Skills: * On-line and internet skills; * To think creatively and analytically; * To evaluate arguments and research; * To consider research evidence as well as a variety of other information; * To synthesise information from a number of sources in order to gain a coherent understanding; * To identify theory in relation to work based practice. Content: * The changing role of the undertakers/funeral director * Changing funeral customs * Cremation * Burial * Care of the body * Regulatory changes * International Influences Teaching and learning strategies should use subject specific or work based examples where appropriate. |
