Follow this link for further information on unit content Description: Aims:
To provide an advanced course in developmental biology that will communicate the excitement of recent research advances.

Learning Outcomes:
After taking this course the student should be able to:
* explain the basic principles underlying development and organogenesis in vertebrate and invertebrate organisms;
* relate the mechanisms of development to cellular and molecular events;
* describe and explain the applications and implications of research in developmental biology to human developmental defects.

Skills:
Learning and studying T/F/A, Written communication T/F/A, Information handling & retrieval T/F/A, Working independently T/F.

Content:
This course builds on year 2 material to give a comprehensive grounding in developmental biology. The lectures will cover HOX genes, somitogenesis, myogenesis, neural development, epithelial-mesenchymal interaction, cell polarity, stem cells, germline development, limb development and regeneration, developmental defects and wound healing.
