To generate an understanding of the extent to which Biochemical knowledge influences current clinical practice and therapeutic approaches.

Learning Outcomes:
After taking this course the student should be able to:
* explain the increasing contribution of biochemical science to the understanding and treatment of disease;
* explain the areas of biochemical research that are most relevant to clinical medicine.

Skills:
Learning and studying T/F/A, Written communication T/F/A, Oral communication T/F/A, Information handling & retrieval T/F/A, Working independently T/F/A.

Content:
Students will prepare and present a 30 min talk on a particular area of clinical biochemistry, chosen, in general, from a list provided by the unit convenor. The talks will be followed by general discussion. Contributions of students to both their own talk and discussion of others will be assessed.
