This unit aims to develop comprehensive skills in the creation and development of scripts for traditional media products and multimedia.

Learning Outcomes:
By the end of this unit students should be able to:
* demonstrate writing skills across a variety of contexts and mediums
* demonstrate a clear understanding of narrative grammar in film, broadcast and/or interactive media
* employ language appropriate to any given target audience
* appraise and edit scripts.

Skills:
Professional: producing work to industry standards
Practical: use of industry standard software to prepare scripts
Intellectual: analysis and critical comment on own and peers¿ work
Key: report writing (communication)

Content:
Engage with writing in a variety of formats for film, broadcast and/or interactive media
Identify codes and conventions employed in scripts across a range of formats
Maintain a 'writing log' and be able to demonstrate drafting and revision of work in response to workshop peer review
Critically review own writing, reflecting on commercial scripts in at least 2 different formats for broadcast and/or interactive media
Recognise and demonstrate a different range of writing styles for different formats: e.g. Developing writing styles appropriate to different media
Adapting the same script for different media
Understanding the impact target audience has on writing style
To present scripts in accordance with relevant professional codes and conventions appropriate to the chosen mediums: i.e. understanding generic codes and conventions of script layout; knowledge and application of appropriate context-specific codes and conventions for script layout; use of software tools to present completed scripts
Understand the scripting process from pitch to production: e.g. presenting a script for production; working as part of a production team; revising and adapting scripts during pre-production, production and post-production as required.
