To give learners the opportunity to:
* Develop an understanding of the principles and practice of project management including organisational and human resource considerations;
* Develop a sound understanding of project management methodologies, tools and techniques;
* Develop the ability to analyse, plan and control projects including contingency planning and risk analysis.

Learning Outcomes:
To achieve this unit a learner must:
* Demonstrate a sound knowledge of Project Management Principles and Practice;
* Apply theoretical knowledge to set up project schedules using project management software;
* Understand the problems associated with managing a project and how to address these problems;
* Demonstrate the ability to prepare budgets, allocate resources, and successfully monitor and control a project.

Content:
Project Management Principles
The course will
* investigate the principles of project management and the role of the project manager. This will include the management of change and an understanding of planning, tracking and delivering a successful project.
* investigate how to define the scope of a project and how to set project objectives and boundaries.
* study introductory Financial Theory as it applies to projects and also how to establish success/failure criteria and determine cost and time constraints.
* Investigation of Project Management Systems Procedures and Tools:
* comparative review of the systems procedures, tools and processes available to the project manager, including methods such as PRINCE 2 and IT Infrastructure Library.
* use of project management software such as Microsoft Project.
* Project Management Personnel and Organisations:
* compare organisational structures and the personnel aspects of running and managing a project. This will also include an introduction to Group Psychology, Leadership Skills Team Building, and Motivation.
* Change Control, Risk Analysis and Contingency Planning: the need for change control and contingency planning and methods of assessing risk and planning for recovery and backup.
* Disaster Recovery Planning.
