By the end of this unit students will be able to understand the scientific principles, concepts and theories underpinning strength training and conditioning.

Learning Outcomes:
At the completion of this unit students should be able to:
* Understand the physical and motor fitness requirements of sport and how they interact during performance.
* Understand the concepts and use of a needs analysis (including sport and athlete)
* Understand the scientific principles of training within the strength and conditioning industry. (Specificity, overload (progressive), Variation)
* Apply scientific principles of training and understand how they lead to improved performance.
* Demonstrate a critical understanding of performance measures that can be used to monitor improved performance.

Content:

* Introduction to the fundamentals of human movement
* Introduction to functional movement screens and needs analysis
* Principles of effective training; training theory and practice
* Physical and motor fitness components of performance
