Learning Outcomes:
On completion of this unit the learner will be able to:
* Recognise and describe the value of ICT and its effective use in the curriculum.
* Evaluate ICT learning and play materials, resources and environments to maximise learning and development.
* Summarize the role ICT plays in inclusive education.
* Support children's development by using ICT.
* Describe national programmes, requirements, strategies and expected outcomes in ICT for Early Years.
* Identify and apply Health & Safety requirements when using ICT.
* Apply the principles of inclusive education, demonstrating awareness of the legislation and regulations about equal opportunities and anti-discriminatory practice.

Skills:
Communicate ideas, principles and theories, arguments and analysis effectively in speech and writing, using visual and ICT media as tools where appropriate, to specific and non-specific audiences. Use ICT to support own development, and the learning and development of children. The professional practice for this unit is that the learner must demonstrate whilst working as a Senior Practitioner that they can:
* Use ICT to support the curriculum.
* Evaluate ICT and software for use within the curriculum
* Plan to use ICT
* Use ICT within the curriculum
* Monitor, evaluate and assess teaching and learning when using ICT.

Content:
1. Significant and emerging theories and principles of:
a) ICT and its effective use within the Early Years curriculum
b) the planning, development, implementation and evaluation of ICT within the curriculum for children, including:
* when, when not, and how to use ICT to meet identified teaching objectives
* how to organise ICT to maximise learning, motivation, development and participation
* how and what ICT activities, materials and resources to select to enhance children’s learning and development
* how to evaluate ICT learning and play materials, resources and environments to maximise learning and development
* how and when to assess children’s learning and development using ICT c) how the use of ICT can enhance young children’s learning
d) the nature and role of ICT and its place within the curriculum
e) principles of inclusive education
f) legislation and regulations about equal opportunities and anti-discrimination.
2. Methods, techniques and processes relating to:
a) supporting children’s development by using ICT, including:
* ensuring progression
* developing appropriate ICT, intellectual and social skills
b) how ICT can be used as a medium for play
c) assessment and assessment systems for ICT in the subject area where ICT has been used
d) working and interacting with children, parents, other adults and professionals to allow children to progress
e) differentiation in ICT
f) the implementation of legislation and regulations about equal opportunities and anti-discrimination
g) the evaluation of the effects of self on practice and the children using ICT
h) health and safety issues and requirements for any ICT work undertaken with and by children
i) record keeping and reporting procedures for ICT.
3. Information and facts about:
a) national programmes, requirements, strategies and expected outcomes in ICT within the curriculum area in which it is being used for children within the learner’s area of responsibility
b) how ICT can support the teacher, early years worker and children to enhance their learning and their professional role
c) children's most common misconceptions and mistakes when using ICT
d) subject-specific health and safety requirements when using ICT
e) child welfare legislation, regulations, requirements and guidance regarding the teaching of ICT
f) the potential effect of the learner’s own attitudes, values and behaviour on work with children, parents and colleagues within the organisation and those witth whom the learner needs to work from outside the organisation
g) the legislation, regulations and guidance about equal opportunities and anti-discrimination
h) data protection and confidentiality and security of information.
