To provide practical experience in a professional environment, either in a public or private sector organisation in the UK or abroad, applying knowledge and skills gained within the undergraduate degree programme. To develop personal skills typically including communication skills (written and oral), planning and time management, problem solving, analytical and numerical, accuracy and attention to detail, the use of initiative, decision making skills, flexibility and adaptability, the critical appraisal of new information, and team-working skills. To enable an understanding to be gained of the general structure of an organisation and of expected professional standards. To enable the contribution of the individual to the aims and objectives of the organisation.

Learning Outcomes:
1. To demonstrate further understanding of the application of Economic, Financial and Accounting theory as appropriate in the chosen professional discipline. To demonstrate further understanding of a range of key skills within this context.
2. To be able to work accurately and consistently to identify and achieve personal and company objectives.
3. To learn how the individual integrates into and interacts with an organisation for the mutual benefit of the individual and organisation.
4. To demonstrate the ability to manage conflicting resource and time demands through prioritisation and allocation.
5. To be able to identify appropriate opportunities to apply knowledge, skills and understanding in new contexts to evaluate solutions and solve problems.
6. To build a range of group working skills, typically including effective one-to-one and group communication, presentations and interaction, and effective personal contribution to team goals.
7. Familiarity with industry-specific acronyms, business terminology and writing-style.
8. To gain an opportunity to investigate and assess potential career options prior to graduation.

Skills:
The above skills are developed during this year, along with practical competencies relating to living and working outside the university environment.

Content:
A period of paid or unpaid employment, normally within an established private or public sector organisation, performing a role in which some of the knowledge and skills gained from the degree programme can be applied and developed. The placement period shall incorporate critical self-evaluation and employer evaluation in order to enhance practice and identify new learning needs.
