This unit will equip students with detailed knowledge and understanding of the planning, organisation and management requirements of coaching from short and long term perspectives. Students will also gain an appreciation of how individual or team differences and psychological issues inform the planning, organisation and management of a coaching session and coaching programme.

Learning Outcomes:
At the end of this unit students will be able to:
* Analyse and apply the principles of planning for a coaching session and coaching programme;
* Analyse and apply the organisation and management principles of coaching to the planning process;
* Identify and outline how individual / team differences and psychological issues can affect the planning for coaching;
* Identify and outline what key factors create the optimal coaching environment.

Content:
Planning of a coaching session and coaching programme; plan, lead, reflect (session construction, purpose of reflection and evaluation, use of case studies, periodisation, individualisation, peaking and tapering)
Organisation and Management of a coaching session and coaching programme; basic management theory, human resources, the coach as a manager.
Influence of profiling and goal setting on a session/programme; tactical, physical and mental skills, performance versus outcome goals.
Principle of progression and the effect on session and programme planning.
Principle of differentiation and the effect on session and programme planning.
Principle of adaptability and the effect on session and programme planning.
Understanding the factors that create the optimal coaching environment; managing the coaching environment, managing behaviours, maintaining control, conflict resolution.
