Students undertaking this unit will examine and analyse the ethical considerations in sport to allow students to assess the role of the fitness professional in welfare issues in relation to sport and exercise participation.

Learning Outcomes:
At the end of this unit students will be able to:
* Identify and analyse the key issues contributing to ethical practice, for a professional in the fitness industry;
* Recognise how to plan effective strategies to respond to a clients individual needs;
* Examine the necessity of safe and effective practice when working with athletes/participants/clients/special populations and vulnerable groups.

Content:
The role of the fitness instructor in vulnerable group¿s welfare, to include children/young adults, vulnerable adults, obese clients, and medical conditions;
Ethical practice (code of conduct: code of ethics) for fitness professionals;
Ethical legislation (to include confidentiality and data protection, H & S legislation, Discrimination Act, professional bodies);
Safe working practice to include health and safety responsibilities, basic first aid, intrinsic & extrinsic risk factors;
Drugs and physical activity, including the ethical implications of drug testing;
Professional ethics as a fitness instructor with regards to gender and race.
