Further information on descriptions Description: Aims:
This unit builds on the fundamental biomechanical principles studied in the Introduction to Biomechanics unit. It enables students to undertake detailed investigation and analysis of specific sporting movements, thus supporting the sports coaching process. Students should be able to enhance sporting performance by analysing and improving mechanical efficiency of specific movements.

Learning Outcomes:
At the end of this unit students will be able to:
* outline how to apply the principles of kinesiology and basic biomechanics to evaluate and improve clients' sporting performance;
* undertake movement analysis, utilising biomechanical principles as part of the sports coaching process, to improve clients¿ performance.

Skills:
Intellectual
* Improve own learning (F)
* Apply theory to practice (T, F, A)
* Develop effective practice (T, F, A)
* Research skills (F, A)
Professional
* Reflective practice (F, A)
* Communicate professionally (F, A)
* Working as a team (F, A)
Key Skills
* Communication (F, A)
* Work logically and systematically (F)
* ICT (T,F,A)
* Self organisation and management (F)
* Solving problems (F,A)
Practical
* Theory to practice (T, F, A)
* Prioritising time and tasks (F, A)

Content:
Application of relevant biomechanical principles (such as forms of motion ¿ including projectiles; levers; centre of gravity, balance & stability; friction; Newton¿s Laws of Motion) to analyse sporting movements, identify errors and improve mechanical efficiency;
Quantitative and qualitative methods of recording and analysing sporting movement;
Application of movement analysis to a specific sporting performance: data collection, video / software analysis, evaluation of movement, coaching points to improve performance.
