| Description:
| Aims: This module aims to provide students with experience of contemporary social work practice & its organisational context. Learning Outcomes: By the end of the module students will be able to: * Prepare for & work with individuals, families, carers, groups & communities to assess their needs & circumstances (Key Role 1): -Prepare for social work contact & involvement (Key Role 1 Unit 1) -Work with individuals, families, carers, groups & communities to help them make informed decisions (Key role 1 Unit 2) -Assess needs & options to recommend a course of action (Key Role 1 Unit 3) * Plan, carry out, review & evaluate social work practice with individuals, families, carers, groups, communities & other professionals (Key Role 2): -Interact with individuals, families, carers, groups & communities to achieve change & development & to improve life opportunities (Key Role 2 Unit 5) -Prepare, produce, implement & evaluate plans with individuals, families, carers, groups, communities & professional colleagues (Key Role 2 Unit 6) -Support the development of networks to meet assessed needs & planned outcomes (Key Role 2 Unit 7) * Support individuals to represent their needs, views & circumstances (Key Role 3): -Advocate with, and on behalf of, individuals, families, carers, groups & communities (Key Role 3 Unit 10) -Prepare for, and participate in decision-making forums (Key Role 3 Unit 11) * Manage & be accountable, with supervision & support, for your own social work practice within your organisation (Key Role 5): -Manage & be accountable for your own work (Key Role 5 Unit 14) -Manage, present & share records & reports (Key Role 5 Unit 16) -Work within multi-disciplinary & multi-organisational teams, networks & systems (Key Role 5 Unit 17) * Demonstrate professional competence in social work practice (Key Role 6) -Research, analyse, evaluate & use current knowledge of best social work practice (Key Role 6 Unit 18) * Be aware of their own values, prejudices, ethical dilemmas & conflicts of interest & their implications on their practice (Knowledge indicator 3a) * Respect & promote individuality, form of communication, independence & quality of life, protection from harm and the dignity & privacy each person as an individual (Knowledge indicator 3b & 3c) * Value, recognise & respect the diversity, expertise & experience of individuals, families, carers, groups & communities (Knowledge indicator 3d) * Maintain the trust & confidence of individuals, families, carers, groups & communities by communicating in an open, accurate & understandable way (Knowledge indicator 3e) * Understand & make use of strategies to challenge discrimination, disadvantage & other forms of inequality & injustice (knowledge indicator 3f). Skills: Skills as stated within the Key Roles above; problem-solving skills; Communication skills; skills in working with others; Communication & Information Technology and numerical skills; personal & professional development. Content: 85-day period of assessed practice within a social work agency setting. Content will vary according to the setting but will include learning opportunities to enable the student to demonstrate competence to the occupational standards stated above. |
