Students will examine the ethical issues faced by a sports therapist when training athletes/clients in a sports/activity environment. A multidisciplinary approach to the sport science utilised by participants will be investigated to ensure safe as well as good practice.

Learning Outcomes:
At the end of this unit students will be able to:
* Develop an understanding of emerging ethical issues and pressures experienced by sports therapists and athletes/participants;
* Identify the key issues contributing to ethical and safe practice;
* Recognise how to plan effective strategies to reduce the onset and severity of illness/injury.

Content:
Drugs in sport, including drug testing, physiological and psychological side effects;
Awareness of multidisciplinary approach to Sport Science and limitations within sports therapy, the limitations of a sports therapist and the role and function of other healthcare professionals in ethical practice;
Awareness of performance factors such as jet lag, acclimatisation, heat and cold, altitude;
Pressures of success, under achievement and the impact it has on injury occurrence and return to performance/activity.
