This unit will allow students to understand and gain knowledge on the role of key coaching organisations and the initiatives that provide coaches with progression opportunities and qualifications. It will also allow students to appreciate the key differences between coaching and teaching in schools.

Learning Outcomes:
At the end of this unit students will be able to:
* Critically analyse the role and responsibilities of national coaching organisations;
* Differentiate the links between Physical Education and Coaching;
* Explain and appraise the national framework and long term professional development of coaches.

Skills:
Intellectual: (T and A) Knowledge of the working roles of Sports Coach UK, National Governing Bodies for sport, physical education and the national curriculum. Compare, contrast and systematically analyse coaching organisations, initiatives, physical education and the National Curriculum.
Professional: (F) Independent research, presentation skills, report writing
Practical: (T, F and A) Analyse, observe, research and reflect on theory and practice within coaching, physical education and the national curriculum
Key: (F and A) Planning, communication, problem solving & decision making skills

Content:

* Examining the role of Sports coach UK and how they develop and implement coaches and coaching throughout the UK.
* Learning about local and national initiatives that will support and develop coaches & coaching (LTAD, LTCD, UK & Regional Action Plans, Community Sport Coaches etc...)
* Examining the qualification framework and levelling across all sports (UKCC standards)
* Linking and differentiating between Physical Education, the National Curriculum and Coaching in schools.
