The aims of this unit are to explain the importance of vehicle preparation to ensure maximum performance with regard to safety and technical regulations. Demonstrate the practical application of the skills required for competition vehicle preparation.

Learning Outcomes:
On completion of the unit the student should be able to:
* explain the safety and technical regulations for a variety of motorsport disciplines;
* implement and perform a setup procedure on a range of competition vehicles;
* assist in the preparation of competition vehicles evidenced by a diary/log;
* carry out practical workshop activities relating to the preparation of competition vehicles evidenced by a portfolio.

Skills:
During the unit students should gain the following skills in:
Intellectual:
* interpreting technical regulations to ensure a vehicles compliance (T,A)
* evaluating recorded data previously gathered (T,A)
Professional:
* understanding safety requirements as laid down by the Motor Sport Association (MSA) and the Federation International Automobile (FIA) (T,A)
* working with drivers and vehicle owners to prepare competition schedules (F)
Practical:
* undertaking practical tasks in the preparation of competition vehicles (F/A)
* performing a range of vehicle setup procedures (T,A)
Key:
* experiencing working on a variety of competition vehicles (F).

Content:
This unit concentrates on:
* technical regulations
* safety requirements and regulations
* FIA/MSA requirements
* the role of the Scrutineer in policing safety and technical regulations
* vehicle set-up procedures
* recording vehicle set-up and test data
* pre and post event checks
* preparation of vehicle systems
* preparation of vehicle chassis/body structure.
