Further information on descriptions Description: Aims:
The aims of this unit are to investigate the functions and structures of an engineering business. Apply skills of financial and project planning and scheduling in an engineering organisation. Develop knowledge of Health, Safety and environmental regulatory framework. Develop tools to analyse and evaluate risks in an organisation, as well as, familiarise with the principles and applications of environmental impact assessment. In addition, identify effects of policy decisions on the environment when planning new, or changing existing, operations. Also, identify energy resource issues on operations management and the impact of sustainability.

Learning Outcomes:
On completion of the unit the student should be able to:
* Explain the origins of and apply engineering professional practice, ethics and functions of the professional societies.
* Appreciate the discipline and core techniques of engineering management in the public and private sector.
* Appreciate engineering management responsibilities in terms of impact on the environment, UK and EU legislation, consequences and resource sustainability.
* Appraise environmental assessments for engineering operations and evaluate techniques to establish cost and benefit issues.
* Explain the scope and impact of UK and EU Health and Safety legislation for engineering operations including formal and legal consequences.
* Apply risk assessment techniques used to aid the management of identified risks in an engineering organisation.

* Appraisal of environmental assessment
* UK and EU regulatory environment that impacts on engineering organisation
* Interpreting and implementing Health and Safety and Risk Assessment polices
* Risk Management techniques
* Risk and Hazard classification and evaluation
* Methodologies for recording and receiving the risk management processes.
