Enable students to develop an understanding of economic, institutional and cultural conditions that shape the contemporary context of careers, and articulate meaningful career investments in response to their chosen employment context. The pragmatic focus is for students to develop appropriate knowledge and skills in preparation for recruitment by employers for the Period of Professional Practice and beyond. The delivery is based on contemporary career theory with its emphasis on individuals taking responsibility for their professional development and learning.

Learning Outcomes:
Students will develop knowledge and understanding of career context; be able to identify key issues and analyse these critically and informed by relevant career theory; critically reflect on their career investments and job search strategy. Through a range of activities and assignments, students will explore, individually and with others, how they can bring skills and expertise (knowing how), relationships (knowing whom), and values (knowing why) to their chosen career. Activities include Analysis of a chosen employment context, career exploration activities, Learning Needs Analysis and a Personal Development Plan (which will explicitly draw on relevant career theory); Developing skills and knowledge relevant to graduate level job search process.

Content:
An understanding of contemporary career contexts within a knowledge-oriented global economy. Analysing economic, institutional and cultural aspects shaping employment and careers. From occupational choice to career investments. Developing adaptability in a changing world of work. Activities include: labour market analysis; Group and individual career exploration activities enabling students to develop self-awareness about meaningful career investments; Personal Development Plan; CV Writing and Covering Letters, Application Forms, Interview Skills, Aptitude tests, Assessment Centres, Mock Interview Preparation Session. Students will also be introduced to relevant scholarly literature.
