To introduce the concept of wellbeing with particular reference to multi-disciplinary perspectives in the social sciences.
To understand how wellbeing has been conceptualised in policy over time and in different cultural and policy contexts.
To explore the subjective, objective, relational and environmental dimensions of human wellbeing.
To consider the challenges of putting wellbeing at the core of policy and programming in different socio-cultural and political contexts.
To understand how wellbeing is being measured and how measurement is incorporated in policy.

Learning Outcomes:
By the end of the unit, students should be able to:
* understand clearly different conceptualizations of wellbeing across time and policy contexts;
* critically evaluate the concept of wellbeing in relation to different social science disciplinary perspectives
* show a critical awareness of how the concept of wellbeing is understood across different political; contexts and translated into policyidentify and evaluate the ways in which the concept of wellbeing has been translated into policy and the use of measurement therein.
