Further information on descriptions Description: Aims:
To provide a comprehensive understanding of advanced principles of artificial lighting and the role of artificial lighting in daylit buildings, along with basic calculations sufficient to enable students to make informed decisions for the choice of the latest luminaires in buildings.

Learning Outcomes:
Upon successful completion of the Unit, students will have demonstrated an advanced knowledge of light sources and luminaires, along with means of advanced analysis of the latest computer models for appropriate design of artificial lighting in buildings.

Skills:
Ability to use a range of analytical methods in the design of artificial lighting. These skills are taught, facilitated and assessed.

Content:
Characteristics and types of light sources, colour, optical mechanism and characteristics of luminaires and installations, glare, integration of daylight with artificial lighting, control strategies for artificial lighting.
