* To introduce the course and its learning style;
* To review contemporary issues and developments in the construction industry;
* To prepare the students for undertaking a dissertation. LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
* To provide opportunities to participate in group activities and develop higher level skills relevant to industry managers;
* To provide opportunities to meet staff who teach and support the course;
* To provide opportunities to obtain help with module study and revision;
* To provide networking opportunities.

Learning Outcomes:

* Students will gain a comprehensive understanding of the structure and expectations of the programme including an overview of effective study skill techniques
* Students will develop higher level skills relevant to industry managers by attending of a range of lectures, seminars and workshops
* Students will gain up-to date insight and information concerning current issues and developments in the construction industry
* Students will gain insight into current research issues
* Students will develop team working skills in sessions relating to specific areas of the programme which benefit from a workshop approach
* Students will develop their presentation skills.

Skills:
The residential sessions are designed to provide several key functions that are important to distance learning students. These include meeting their peers, academic tutors and student support staff, receiving lectures and tutorials from unit tutors, academics and practitioners and undertaking workshop and group work sessions.
