To understand the key sports policies that frame sport in the UK and internationally.
To have critically engaged the main principles of Sports Policy and International Development.

Learning Outcomes:
At the completion of this unit the student will:
* Have gained an understanding of the range of knowledges underpinning sports policy.
* Will be able to explain and discuss the relevance of, and contestations between, public and private providers, national and international objectives, corporate sport and public policy.
* Will be able to critically discuss the politics of the role of sport in international development.

* Develop and apply the skills needed for academic study and inquiry T/A
* Evaluate both research and evidence critically and assess a variety of information sources T/A
* Synthesise information from a number of sources in order to gain a coherent understand of theory and practice T/A
* Recognise and understand competent and effective management of sport and physical activity F
* Utilise problem solving skills in a variety of theoretical situations F
* Take responsibility for personal and professional learning and development F
* Manage time, prioritise workloads, and utilise planning skills F
* Work independently to identify and achieve clear goals F

Students will study:
* Analysis of sports policy and major providers in the UK
* UK Sports Policy within the Global Context
* The politics of sport for development & peace (e.g. gendered, raced, imperial)
* Specific Sports Strategy Documents and major sports policies
* Cross-Cutting Agendas and the role of sport in social policy delivery.
