Further information on descriptions Description: Aims:
To develop an understanding of relevant theories underlying learning at work, including learning as influenced by organizations and self-directed. Developing self-awareness, skills and knowledge relevant to personal effectiveness in organizational settings. Furthermore, to prepare for the Period of Practice by reviewing progress towards students' Professional Development Plan; to set expectations and objectives for the Period of Professional Practice; to explain the assessment requirements of the Review of Professional Development component of the Portfolio of Professional Practice (MN50389).

Learning Outcomes:
An understanding of learning in organizations is developed through a variety of activity enabling the student to demonstrate by the end of this unit:
* an understanding of organizational theories and concepts, in particular related to how learning is influenced by organizations and self;
* the ability to discuss critically the implications of particular approaches to learning in organizations;
* self-awareness with regards to interpersonal and communications skills relevant to personal effectiveness in organizational settings;
* practical experience in methods of reflective practice;
* the ability to reflect on their progress towards achieving their Professional Development Plan;
* an understanding of the requirements to be placed on them during the Period of Professional Practice;
* the ability to manage their learning during their Period of Professional Practice effectively.

Ability to identify, plan and evaluate progress towards the Professional Development Plan - facilitated and assessed.

* How organizations influence work-place learning (e.g., human capital, cognitive, and cultural learning perspectives)
* Integrating your learning from semester 1 Project Team Dynamics - managing your professional development through self-assessment, feedback, and a Professional Development Plan
* Learning as reflective practice - the purposeful inquiry of assumptions about practice and its emotional dynamics
* Building relationships and communicating assertively in practice (workshop)
* Preparing for Review of Professional Practice
* Formative feedback on Essay Plan
* Overview of placement activities in Semester 2 (AMP Placement Officer)
* Pre-placement briefing, e.g., how to manage problems which emerge on professional practice and to identify learning opportunities; health and safety issues (AMP Placement Officer).
