Further information on descriptions Description: Aims:
This unit is designed to demonstrate through a practical research and journal paper writing exercise how both qualitative and quantitative methods can be applied simultaneously to the development, empirical testing, and writing-up of theoretically-based hypotheses across a range of management fields. As such, the unit acts as a vehicle that draws together empirically what is learned in a more theoretical and non-applied manner in other research training units.

Learning Outcomes:
On completion of the unit, candidates should be able to:
(i) Identify potential research topics from existing journal papers
(ii) Develop theoretical models and testable hypotheses
(iii) Indentify germane dependent and independent variables
(iv) Use qualitative and quantitative methods to identify, develop and construct latent and proxy measures for variables
(v) Develop and design practical research operationalisations, including population identification, sampling, instrument design, development, testing, and administration
(vi) Input, clean and manipulate data
(vii) Select appropriate statistical analyses to test data validity and hypotheses
(viii) Develop and draft a paper for submission to a scholarly journal
(ix) Collaborate with fellow academics in all of the above.

Content:
This unit's content will directly reflect the learning outcomes enumerated above, with students working in small groups under the direct supervision of the professor to identify, execute, write-up and submit to a scholarly journal a rigorous piece of theoretically-based, empirical research.
