To introduce students to the principles of sustainability and their strategic implications.

Learning Outcomes:
Having studied the unit, students will be able to:
* Understand and critically engage with the principles of sustainability within the international business context.
* Evaluate the strategic implications of sustainability.
* Describe and critique current examples of efforts to develop sustainable business strategies.
* Critique the sustainability of a firm's strategy and suggest corresponding improvements during a group project.

Skills:

* Apply subject-specific knowledge during critical evaluations of the strategic implications of sustainability in a range of strategic contexts. (TFA)
* Demonstrate critical awareness of current issues and frameworks informed by leading research (TFA)
* Deal with complex issues and make sound recommendations based upon independent research. Communicate conclusions clearly and competently. (FA)

Content:
The first part of the unit focuses upon introducing the principles of sustainability and their implications for business strategy. The remainder of the unit is then taught around a number of contemporary case studies which are developed and presented in partnership with business leaders that are actively engaged in strategy development which is sensitive to sustainability. These cases give rise to a number of potential coursework topics, one of which students selects and takes forwards in small groups. The group project involves critiquing the sustainability of a firm's strategy and suggesting corresponding improvements during a group project.
