Further information on descriptions Description: Aims:
To allow students the opportunity to develop a more in depth understanding of wellbeing in a specific context through designing and undertaking a piece of practical research using the wellbeing assessment.

Learning Outcomes:
By the end of the unit students will have:
* identified an organisational, programme or project context suitable for the application of wellbeing assessment;
* demonstrated comprehensive understanding of the techniques necessary to design, carry out and report on a research project to assess wellbeing within that context;
* demonstrated the ability to reflect critically on the approach adopted and the findings of the analysis undertaken.

Skills:
Ability to plan, organise, and follow through a piece of action research (Taught/Facilitated/Assessed);
Ability to generate, analyse and present qualitative and quantitative data (T/F/Assessed);
Ability to work effectively in directing a project team (T/F);
Comprehensive, accessible and robust communication of results (T/F/A);
Critical reflection on one's own practice (T/F/A).

Content:
This unit is intended primarily for those with strong research career interests, or those who have the opportunity to undertake action research within an organisation, and who have demonstrated a capacity for self-guided work. It builds on the unit in Wellbeing Assessment, giving the opportunity to develop that learning in a more extended research project. There are five stages of study:
1. Students must produce a 500 word proposal outlining the project to be undertaken for approval by the Convenor. Approval of this proposal is required before students are permitted to proceed with the unit.
2. The student will produce a detailed research plan, describing in more detail the problem to be addressed and the methods to be used in doing so.
3. The student will pilot key elements of the methodology and produce a revised plan incorporating the learning from piloting.
4. The student will undertake the research.
5. The student will write a report on the research, its key findings and the methodological learning that took place with respect to wellbeing assessment.
