Further information on descriptions Description: This unit will require approximately 200 study hours to complete.
Aims:
To introduce musculoskeletal problems seen commonly in general practice consultations, and to provide participants with evidence-based knowledge and skills to conduct appropriate history taking, examination and assessment leading to competent differential diagnoses and management of the conditions.

Learning Outcomes:
On completion of this unit students will be able to:
1. Take a competent history of a patient (taught and facilitated)
2. Undertake a focused clinical examination of the musculoskeletal system (taught, facilitated and assessed)
3. Apply history and physical examination skills to reach a differential diagnosis on common presenting problems in general practice (taught, facilitated and assessed)
4. Integrate and critically evaluate evidence presented in appropriate literature in reaching a differential diagnosis (taught, facilitated and assessed)
5. Demonstrate a critical understanding of how to diagnose and manage key and common conditions including appropriate use of investigations (taught, facilitated and assessed)
6. Critically evaluate the use of drug and non-drug interventions and use them safely and competently including shared care monitoring of disease modifying drugs (taught, facilitated and assessed).

Skills:
On completion of this unit students will be able to:
* undertake a competent clinical examination of the musculoskeletal system;
* present clinical assessments effectively to colleagues orally and through written communication;
* communicate effectively with colleagues, peers and tutors;
* identify, collect and reflect upon evidence to demonstrate professional practice in primary care.
