Further information on descriptions Description: Aims:
The unit aims to develop students' ability to relate sustainability issues within organisations to the relevant academic literature. The purpose of which is to demonstrate critical thinking and the ability to create a relevant and interesting plan of research for a current management problem related to sustainability. As such, students will define a research question based on a current management problem, review the relevant literature on the topic to understand and critique the current state of the research, and to develop a structured commentary leading to well-supported opinions and recommendations.

Learning Outcomes:
At the end of the unit, students will be able to:
* Define a research question in a chosen area of interest related to sustainability.
* Identify relevant sustainability and management literature, thereby appreciating the relationship between business practice and theory.
* Systematically research and review relevant literature
* Develop an argument with reference to sustainability concepts that also incorporates other relevant literatures within and outside the management discipline, such as psychology, sociology, history etc.
* Provide an interpretation of existing literature or provide insight on the chosen issue.
* Present a written report of the above that conforms to acceptable standards of presentation, referencing and expression.

Skills:

* Ability to deliver an appropriately comprehensive and scholarly written communication (F; A).
* Ability to select, summarise and synthesise written information from multiple sources (F; A).
* Ability to develop rigorous arguments through precise use of concepts and/ or models (F; A).
* Ability to synthesise multidisciplinary perspectives on the same problem (F; A).
* Ability to formulate a research question (F; A).
* Ability to produce work to agreed specifications and deadlines (F; A).
* Ability to work independently, without close supervision or guidance (F; A).

Content:
The unit involves students identifying one current business issue related to sustainability facing a particular organisation or affecting a particular industry and performing an analysis of that issue by working with relevant sustainability and management concepts to come to some conclusion about the issues. Each student will choose their own sustainability related subject, in line with their own experience with the content in the taught portion of the programme.
