The aim of this unit is to introduce the student to the environment required for effective coaching. Theoretical principles and practical experiences of the coaching environment will be explored to demonstrate the relationship between theory and research to effective coaching practice. Upon completion, students will be provided with a foundation of knowledge surrounding creation and maintenance of the environment required for effective coaching to take place. In addition students will be introduced to the concepts of coaching within the high performance environment.

Learning Outcomes:
On successful completion of this unit students will be able to:
* Demonstrate an understanding of effective coaching environments and appropriate theory and research
* Discuss the application of appropriate theory and research in supporting an effective coaching environment
* Demonstrate improved personal competence and effective contribution to the coaching environment in a range of sports
* Examine and evaluate the function and applicability of principles of the coaching environment and their role in delivering performance benefits to athletes.
* Examine and evaluate the function and applicability of sport science disciplines to aid athlete performance and effective coaching.
* Demonstrate a knowledge of the high performance environment.

Content:
Students will experience the coaching environment from the perspective of performer: The unit will enable students to be immersed in practical sessions driven by coaching principles aimed at developing understanding of coaching environments.
Personal understanding of the effective coaching environment will be supported through a comprehensive analysis of the steps a coach can take to create an effective coaching environment.
The demands and management of an effective coaching environment will be discussed throughout and opportunities for performance enhancement through the application of coaching principles highlighted.
Each sports course will include preparation for performance through a study of appropriate coaching principles and methods.
