Further information on descriptions Description: Aims:
The aim of this unit is to introduce the key practical and theoretical elements applicable to coaching in a high performance environment.
Students will experience and reflect upon a variety of sports via a series of practical coach-led sessions designed to explore the specific nature of coaching (and associated factors) in a high performance environment.
The unit will challenge student understanding of the role of the elite coach and provide opportunities to discuss the psychological factors present in creating a high performance environment.

Learning Outcomes:
On successful completion of this unit students will be able to:
* Demonstrate improved personal competence in a range of sports.
* Discuss the application of sport science support to a range of sports
* Facilitate the understanding of sport and exercise science in the context of coaching performance sport
* Examine and evaluate philosophies of coaching, how to create a performance culture and the importance of the athlete-coach relationship

Content:
Students will experience sport from the perspective of an elite performer: the unit will cover skill development sessions and masterclasses led by elite coaches in a range of sports and sports environments
The psychological demands of the high performance environment will be discussed through the application of sports psychology and high performance coaching methodologies
Personal performance will be enhanced by the teaching and subsequent practice of tactics and strategies geared to the need of each individual.
Each sports course will include preparation for performance through a study of appropriate training principles and coaching methods.
