* To develop advanced communication skills in written and spoken forms;
* To foster reflection on language structures and use through analysis of the target language and through translation in and out of English;
* To further students' intercultural competence so that they can reflect on and enhance the intercultural skills acquired during their year abroad.

Learning Outcomes:
On successful completion of this unit students will be able to:
* Show sound communication skills in both written and spoken forms, with an advanced level of fluency, accuracy and appropriateness of language use;
* Apply strategies for the analysis of language usage;
* Demonstrate mediation skills between the target culture and the culture of origin.

Content:

* Written Language: translation in and out of English; analysis of contemporary texts; summarization, argumentation and essay writing.
* Spoken language: group debate and discussion, individual presentations on a wide range of cultural, political, social subjects; audio-visual activities.
* Laboratory: computer assisted learning.
