Further information on requisites Requisites: After taking this module you must take SP20255 . This unit is only available to students on the BSc Social Work and Applied Social Studies and the BSc Applied Social Studies.
Further information on descriptions Description: Aims:
To ensure students meet both the Standards of Proficiency (HCPC) and Professional Capabilities Framework (TCSW) in relation to social work practice and principles.
By the point of assessment of readiness for direct practice (prior to first placement) students should demonstrate the following:
* Basic social work communication skills
* Ability to engage with users & carers
* Capacity to work as a member of an organisation
* Willingness to learn from feedback and supervision
* Basic social work values, knowledge & skills in order to make effective use of first practice placement

Learning Outcomes:
1. By the end of the RDP students will have learnt about Professionalism (the role of the social worker, mutual roles and responsibilities in supervision, the importance of professional behaviour, the importance of personal & professional boundaries, the ability to learn, using a range of approaches and the importance of emotional resilience in social work) PCF 1.2; 1.3; 1.4; 1.7; 1.9; 1.10
2. By the end of the RDP students will have learnt about Values & Ethics: applying social work ethical principles and values to guide professional practice (understanding the profession's ethical principles and their relevance to practice, demonstrating awareness of own personal values and how these can impact on practice) PCF 2.1; 2.2; 2.3; 2.4
3. By the end of the RDP students will have learnt about Diversity: to recognise diversity and apply ant-discriminatory and anti-oppressive principles in practice (recognise the importance of diversity in human identity and experience, and the application of anti-discriminatory and anti-oppressive principles in social work practice) PCF 3.1; 3.2, 3.3
4. By the end of RDP students will have learnt about Rights, Justice & Economic Wellbeing: Advance human rights and promote social justice and economic well-being (understand the principles of rights, justice and economic well-being, and their significance for social work practice) PCF 4.1; 4.2; 4.3; 4.4; 4.5
5. By the end of RDP students will have learnt about Knowledge: Applying knowledge of social sciences, law and social work practice theory (demonstrate an initial understanding of the application of research, theory and knowledge, demonstrate an initial understanding of the legal and policy frameworks and guidance that inform and mandate social work practice, demonstrate an initial understanding of the range of theories and models for social work intervention) PCF 5.1; 5.2; 5.8
6. By the end of RDP students will have learnt about critical reflection and analysis: applying critical reflection and analysis to inform and provide a rationale for professional decision-making (understanding the role of reflective practice and demonstrate basic skills of reflection, understand the need to construct hypotheses in social work practice, recognise and describe why evidence is important in social work practice) PCF 6.4; 6.5; 6.6
7. By the end of RDP students will have learnt about Intervention &

Skills:
Use judgement and authority to intervene with individuals, families and communities to promote independence, provide support and prevent harm, neglect and abuse (demonstrate core communication skills and the capacity to develop them, demonstrate the ability to engage with people in order to build compassionate and effective relationships, demonstrate awareness of a range of frameworks to assess and plan intervention, demonstrate basic ability to produce written documents relevant for practice, demonstrate initial awareness of risk and safeguarding) PCF 7.1; 7.2; 7.3; 7.4; 7.5; 7.6
8. By the end of RDP students will have learnt about Contexts and Organisations: Engage with, inform, and adapt to changing context that shape practice. Operate effectively within own organisational frameworks and contribute to the development of services and organisations. Operate effectively within multi-agency and inter-professional parrtnerships and settings (demonstrate awareness of the impact or organisational context on social work practice) PCF 8.1; 8.2; 8.3; 8.4; 8.5; 8.6; 8.7
9. By the end of RDP students will have learnt about Professional Leadership: Take responsibility for the professional learning and development of others through supervision, mentoring, assessing, research, teaching, leadership and management (demonstrate awareness of the importance of professional leadership in social work) PCF 9.1; 9.2
