Further information on descriptions Description: Aims:
To introduce students to the concepts of limit state design and its practical application to timber structures. To develop an understanding of the behaviour of timber as a construction material, timber connections, members and products relevant to the design of timber structures.

Learning Outcomes:
On successful completion of this unit, the student will be able to:
* Determine the action imposed on a structure.
* Design a structure considering its ultimate limit state and serviceability limit state.
* Evaluate structural behaviour and understand demonstrate when and how to improve a design through use of different materials and techniques.

Skills:
Professional/Practical skills
* Analytical and design skills related to a timber structure (TA)
Transferable/key skills
* To communicate ideas verbally and in writing, working in a team (FA).
