Further information on descriptions Description: Aims:
To introduce the process of transcription in prokaryotes.
To provide an understanding of ribosome structure and mRNA translation in both prokaryotes and eukaryotes.
To detail the process of protein folding and the intracellular pathways of folding and post-translational modification.
To explain the various pathways of intracellular and extracellular protein turnover.
To provide students with an integrated and comprehensive view of the key processes controlling the production and turnover of cellular proteins.

Learning Outcomes:
After taking this course the student should be able to:
* describe and explain how bacterial gene expression is regulated at the transcriptional level;
* describe and explain the process of translation;
* explain and critically evaluate our current understanding of the processes involved in protein folding;
* describe the pathways and explain the importance of protein turnover;
* analyse the strengths and limitations for current predictive methods for protein structure.
