| Description:
| Aims: This unit explores the 'differences that make a difference', and how these impact on people's experience of and ability to access services. Ethnic and cultural differences, gender, and different abilities are considered and strategies to minimise the impact of discrimination are discussed. The unit also outlines the principles of UK and European Law relevant to ethical and non-discriminatory practice and the upholding of human rights, as they apply to treatment services. Learning Outcomes: At the end of this unit, students will be able to: * Describe a range of minority groups in our society and the specific needs which members of such minorities may have. * Evaluate the issues associated with ethnicity, culture and human difference which must be considered when working within an Addictions Treatment setting. * Examine their own issues associated with race, culture and human difference and how these might impact upon their interaction with clients.
