Description: | Aims: To enhance the ability of students to deal with managing projects in engineering organisations, including projects that involve organisational change. To deepen their appreciation of how project management fits into a wider context including strategic management, contemporary engineering practice and organisational factors. To build project management skills that can influence industrial competitiveness and technology management practice in industry. Learning Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit the student will be able to: * Explain what a project is * Illustrate the importance of project management * Apply the tools of project management to a given project, using an appropriate lifecycle approach. * Outline alternate models of project management * Demonstrate the use of methods for project evaluation, estimation and decision making, critically evaluating these methods. * Assess the effective use of project management principles in a variety of case studies.
