This module aims to give students a thorough understanding of frameworks and instruments related with financial engineering. Building from core finance modules this module allows students to evaluate different financial strategies concerning bonds, options and other derivatives that are often embedded but not specifically named in business contracts.

Learning Outcomes:
By the end of the unit the student should be able to:
* Make appropriate decisions concerning the dynamics of markets and how financial instruments can be used as derivatives
* Critically evaluate when and where to use different option combinations and the effect this has on payoffs
* Analyse and critically evaluate different option valuations
* Comprehend and analyse the appropriateness of a variety financial instruments
* Analyse and critically evaluate the use of convertible bonds and embedded options.

* A systematic understanding of the role of different strategies in financial engineering in business contracts (A)
* A critical awareness of current issues and frameworks in financial engineering(F)

Content:
There are two key areas of focus:
1. A thorough understanding of the markets and how the various stakeholders of the market interact.
2. Building on the understanding of the markets, students will focus on financial instruments and how they can be used to analyse the market and make sound and justified action.
