| Description:
| Aims: The aims of the unit are for the student pharmacist to gain skills in developing a research question, to identify and select an appropriate research design to test that question, and to develop practical research skills to answer that question as part of a small research team. Learning Outcomes: After completing this unit, the student pharmacist will be able to: 1. Explain the background to the chosen research area and use the evidence base to review current practice. 2. Formulate the research question to be addressed and select the means by which it is to be answered. 3. Generate / collect original data and to analyse it appropriately, and to present conclusions drawn from the data in the form of a well organised and well-argued report modelled on a research paper. 4. Contribute effectively to research activity. 5. Work effectively within a team to ensure safe and effective systems are being followed. 6. Discuss the ethical implications of the research project. 7. Demonstrate good organisational skills to deliver tasks to a professional standard. 8. Respond with flexibility and adaptability to new situations and to change. 9. Check own and others' work effectively. 10. Participate in the learning and development of others. Skills: Scientific and practical skills (T/F/A) Study skills, handling information, working with others (T/F/A) Oral communication skills (T/F/A) Problem solving (T/F/A) Content: Students will be offered a choice of research project from a wide range of topics in pharmacy, reflecting the research expertise of the academic staff of the Department and partners in practice or industry. Each student will work within a small team with an academic supervisor. Students will receive the appropriate pre-skilling at the start of the unit. |
