To introduce students to:
* the study and diagnosis of disease.
* research areas where knowledge of pathology might be relevant.
* key aspects of histology.
* the fundamentals of animal research legislation and regulation.

Learning Outcomes:
After taking this course the student should be able to:
* Describe the normal functioning of human cells, tissues and organs, including the immune and endocrine systems;
* Describe the normal development of the human body;
* Explain the major molecular processes that lead to cellular repair and death;
* Explain the development and progress of neoplastic, endocrine, respiratory, immune, opthalmic and developmental disorders.

Healthy cell and tissue structure and functions; Organised growth of cells and tissues (differentiation and development); Cell injury and death (apoptosis and necrosis); Defence mechanisms (innate and acquired); Cellular and tissue responses to damage; Infectious agents and pathogenic effects; Neoplasia; Endocrine disorders; Developmental disorders; Respiratory diseases; Autoimmune diseases; Opthamology; NC3Rs in research.
